Description
The Hass avocado is a large-sized fruit weighing 200 to 300 grams. When ripe, the skin becomes a dark purplish-black and yields to gentle pressure. When ripe, the flesh is pale green near the skin and becomes a deeper yellow-green towards the center. The Hass avocado is a new variety that has been scientifically modified through grafting to significantly reduce its maturity period to between 2.5 years and 3 years from the typical period of 6 to 7 years. Avocado trees can thrive for decades. Like other fruits, each Hass avocado emerges from a bloom on the tree. A mature tree can produce more than a million flowers during each of its two annual blooms.
Hass avocado trees exhibit high productivity and prolonged harvesting seasons with proper nurturing. Each tree can yield around 30 fruits and in two to three years or an average of 300 to 400 kilograms per acre. At four years of age, Hass trees have the potential to produce between 200 and 500 fruits each. Standard Hass spacing is 5 by 5 meters. This means that an acre of land should hold a maximum of 150 Avocado trees. Farmers are advised to dig the spaces straight to make it easier to tend the trees and harvest.
